LEXINGTON, Ky. — The National Bar Association John Rowe Chapter based in Lexington invited the community to an event called "Conversations about Race, Reconciliation, and Resolutions." It began with a march at Lexington Police headquarters and was ending at the Southland Christian Church where conversations about recent events would take place.

Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers walked in the march but was blocked by a group of protesters. Weathers left the march in a car a short time after the incident. Lexington police say they are investigating the matter.

For 16 days, protests have taken place in Lexington and across the state. Most have been peaceful, but Lexington police say the protests are escalating because of a few "agitators."

Lexington police released a trio of videos showing body-camera footage from its officers during protests the videos span from May 31 to June 12.  

 

 

A statement from the police department reads, "We are not a perfect police department, but we are striving for improvement and transparency. And we are proud that officers have maintained a relatively peaceful environment for protesters to safely exercise their Constitutional rights. Unfortunately, some protesters have continued to escalate their activity to the point where it is illegal and dangerous."
