KENTUCKY ⁠— In a WARN letter to Louisville and Lexington leaders, 21c Museum Hotels announced they will extend furloughs and lay off 117 employees in Louisville and 121 in Lexington.

  • 238 employees of 21c Museum Hotels in Kentucky will be laid off

  • The hotel chain also announced it would be extending furloughs

  • They layoffs are expected to be permanent 

 

"This mass layoff is expected to be permanent in nature, given the current economic circumstances," said the letter. "We consider this to be an 'unforseeable business circumstance,' given the unforseeable, dramatic, and rapidly changing circumstances brought on by ever-increasing threat of COVID-19, the slow and phased return-to-work requirements and guidance on the federal, state and local level, and the economic impact on the hotel industry on the whole, including the propety listed herein."

The layoffs and extensions are expected to begin May 28, 2020, and all potentially affected employees have been notified of their separation dates and that the separations will be permanent. 

All separations are expected to be complete by July 1, 2020. 

There will be no bumping rights for affected employees, but all impacted employees have been informed about unemployment insurance benefits and where to apply.
