VERSAILLES, Ky. ⁠—  Former Kentucky First Lady Phyllis George died last week. KET will livestream the memorial service for Phyllis George on Monday, May 25. Spectrum News 1 will have the service on its website, spectrumnews1.com.

George, a former Miss America and pioneering female sportscaster, died May 14 of complications from a rare blood disorder.

Hired by CBS Sports in the 1970s, George was one of the first women to have a prominent role in televised sports. She married John Y. Brown Jr. in 1979 and became Kentucky's first lady after his succeessful bid for governor that year. 

The memorial service will be held in Versailles as a private event, and attendees will observe social distancing. The event will feature remarks from George's family and friends, including her son Lincoln Brown and daughter Pamela Brown Wright. Everett McCorvey, director of University of Kentucky's Opera Theatre, will sing.
