FRANKFORT, Ky. — As part of his Healthy at Work initiative, Gov. Andy Beshear (D) announced the regional driver licensing office at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) building in Frankfort has reopened for limited services.
“We want to begin reopening our Commonwealth in a safe, gradual and well-planned manner that protects employees and customers,” said Beshear. “The Frankfort-based regional licensing office is reopening with limited in-person services to process the most immediate needs first and to prevent a surge in foot traffic.”
Services are limited to individuals who meet one of the following criteria:
- Replacing a lost license, permit or identification card
- Needing a license or ID card for employment or emergency
- New residents needing to replace valid out-of-state credential
- New applicants who completed Kentucky State Police driver testing
- Renewing a credential expired before March 18, 2020 when license and permit expiration dates were extended for 90 days
Appointments can be made online for both standard and REAL ID credentials, however, a limited number of work stations will also be available to serve walk-ins. Applicants may be individually notified when to return to be served as to avoid gatherings in common areas.
Employees will adhere to Beshear’s Healthy at Work guidelines, such as wearing masks, and customers are asked to do the same. Social distancing will be observed, and surfaces and equipment will be sanitized after each use.
“We look forward to resuming in-person customer service,” KYTC Secretary Jim Gray said. “But it is absolutely essential that we resume that service in a way that protects the health and safety of our customers and our employees. We’re implementing new practices that encourage social distancing and our experience will guide the phased opening of other regional driver’s license offices around the Commonwealth.”
Located on 200 Mero Street in Frankfort, the Regional Driver’s License Office will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT.
