FRANKFORT Ky. — Governor Andy Beshear updated the situation in Kentucky Monday afternoon.  He announced there is a 22 patient, a 34-year-old woman from Jefferson County.

Beshear said the Nelson County man who was refusing self-isolation has agreed the quarantine.

He then, as he has from the beginning, listed off all the steps the state is taking to curb the spread of the virus.

The governor is asking that all childcare facilities close by Friday. He said he knows this is a hardship, but we have to come up with new plans.
All-in-person services done at government buildings is ending Tuesday afternoon.  He is also extending driver's license expirations by three months.

Kentucky's May 19 primary election is being moved to June 23. The 35-day extension is allowed by law and Governor Beshear says it is necessary. Secretary of State Michael Adams made the request to move the election Monday and said it was something that needed to be done.

Beshear says he understands the decision about bars and restaurants will cause additional unemployment issues in the state.  Governor Beshear waived the seven-day waiting period to apply for unemployment. The Education and Workforce Development Cabinet will provide assistance for those who lose their jobs or who are put in quarantined. These situations will be viewed as temporary job loss and will not need to seek jobs during this time, they will receive unemployment insurance.

When someone loses their job due to no fault of their own, they can apply for unemployment insurance. The executive order signed today allows people to apply and request benefits. After their claim they will receive 26-weeks of unemployment.  Staff is being increased on the unemployment hotline and they've added more staff to review claims. The department is also beefing up online security to weed out potential fraud.  If you are interested in applying for unemployment insurance, you can go to this website — kcc.ky.gov.
