SHELBYVILLE, Ky. — An award-winning tattoo artist is turning heads with a series of tattoos he's inked for kids! Don't worry, Joe Shoushani trades his needle for Sharpies.
"That whole thing started with a couple of friends of mine who had kids and asked if I would draw tattoos on them just for fun," Shoushani told Spectrum News 1.
Shoushani owns "Ink and Skin Studios," in Shelbyville and even though his entire staff is booked weeks in advance they will still find time to work in young clients.
"Joe is a very gracious man so he doesn’t charge anything for it. He does it for free..." Nicole Tublee brought in her daughter Skylar, "She wanted to be like mom so we booked her an appointment," Tublee said.
The Sharpie tattoos are free though Shoushani does take donations going toward a Shelby County food program providing backpacks filled with healthy foods for kids.
“I just thought it would be a good idea to help out the community as much as possible..some kind of donation for the backpack program because there are kids out there that don’t get to eat like they should."
In an industry that seems like it's only suited for adults, "Ink and Skin," is carving out room for kids.
"Joe, he’s got a huge heart and it kind of like overflows with all of us here at the shop..."
Unlike permanent tattoos, the colorful Sharpie designs only last a few days.
“I think kids.. go unheard a lot of the time too... and this is a great way for them to have their moment," artist Amber Goens said.
