LOUISA, Ky. — In the area of drug addiction and recovery, second chances are not a guarantee but a small town on the Kentucky and West Virginia border is finding success in turning lives around.
Second Chance Auto is a fully-functioning auto body and maintenance shop with something special happening under the hood. About half of the staff members are actually in recovery from alcohol or drug addiction.
"I’ve seen people that came through this program and basically never thought they had a future that have had full-time employment," James Keeton tells Spectrum News 1.
Keeton is the shop manager and several of his employees are successfully advancing through the stages of addiction recovery.
Second Chance Auto is operated by the Addiction Recovery Care network in Kentucky or "ARC" for short. ARC services include a training and vocational program helping people in recovery find meaningful and sustainable employment. Keeton says Second Chance Auto is having a very positive impact.
"People that had felonies and never thought they’d have employment that’s actually gotten employment through us," Keeton adds.
“When we give people opportunities like this, like the medical receptionist program, like the peer support academy people find that hope and they realize they are not too far gone," Kayla Parsons tells Spectrum News 1. Parsons is the Deputy Chief of Staff at ARC.
