FLORENCE, Ky. — The professional baseball team Florence Freedom is a thing of the past.
Fans have spoken and a minor league baseball team in Northern Kentucky has a new name.
The team will now be known as the Florence Y'alls based on the iconic water tower across from the ballpark.
“I think it's a great name for a team name,” said Nathan Chambers,
The team revealed the new name on Tuesday.
“With the new ownership just kinda came a new vision to make it their own,” said Josh Anderson, Vice President, and General Manager.
Anderson said the name change process all started with when new owners started talks of rebranding the team in July 2019.
“We wanted our fans to be a part of this. we had a blind entry where you could submit any name you wanted to,” Anderson said.
The entries included names such as Thunderbirds to the Go-Goettas, Florence Fossil Jockeys and a few more.
"Almost 40 percent was for the Y’alls which was staggering to us,” Anderson said.
Anderson said Florence Y’alls pays homage to the legendary water tower in town that's hard to miss.
Anderson said new uniforms will be unveiled next week.
