STATEWIDE - To keep the roads safe for Kentuckians this holiday season, the Kentucky Distiller's Association is offering discounted and free rides - $10,000 worth to be exact.

Starting at 5 a.m. on Friday, December 20 through January 1, 2020, the "Safe Ride KY"' coalition is back in action. Since the program started in 2017, the group has helped fund nine thousand safe rides after a night of celebrating during the holidays.

“Safe Ride KY’s holiday campaigns continue to have real impact on reducing the number of impaired driving incidents across the Commonwealth,” KDA President Eric Gregory said in a statement. “It’s a program that produces results by allowing people to plan ahead to celebrate responsibly and get home safely.”

The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety, part of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, and Louisville Metro Police Department say this coalition works to complement their Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over efforts in 2020.

DUI convictions have decreased steadily over the past five years in the commonwealth, dropping from 21,785 in 2014 to 18,567 last year, according to Kentucky State Police data. In Jefferson County, that number was 2,331 in 2014 to a low of 1,1447 in 2018.
