LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Metro Police Department is seeing cuts in its budget and in its force.
The department is expecting to see a reduction of 75 to 100 sworn in officers in the next year. With retirements and slashes in funding, LMPD announced today that it will be reorganizing to make itself more efficient and sustainable.
While the force will be leaner, Chief of Police Steve Conrad says, "We're still going to be doing traffic control and traffic enforcement. We're still going to be involved in special event planning. We're still going to be addressing issues with our special operations teams."
While the day-to-day operations of the force will mostly avoid a major impact, two major positions will be cut from the force.
LMPD also believes it will see its numbers fall in the force until at least next year, when new recruits intend to be sworn in.
