LEXINGTON, Ky- A larger-than-life sculpture of Kentucky's most famous horse is home. On Monday a giant bronze monument of the Triple Crown Winner and jockey Ron Turcotte was installed in the roundabout joining Alexandria Drive and Old Frankfort Pike Road. Sculptor Jocelyn Russell began working on the project 16 months ago. Sculpting took more than four months and casting the statue in bronze and reassembling took even longer. The sculpting and bronzing took place in Norman, Oklahoma. Last Tuesday Russell and her team began the 900 miles trip to Lexington. "I love how they have landscaped. They have him on a really nice elevation," Russell told Spectrum News 1 on Monday. The project was commission by the Triangle Foundation based in Lexington. Onlookers had nothing but praise as the bronze statue was set into place. “Almost brings you to tears to see he is getting this kind of recognition. Probably the rest of my life there will not be another horse like it," an onlooker said.
Unfortunately jockey Ron Turcotte was unable to attend the installation but his younger brother Gaetan Turcotte was present. "He would just say good job everybody. Can’t believe it!" the younger Turcotte said.
