LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville forward Malik Williams is sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks after he broke a bone in his right foot during practice.
Williams had a screw inserted into his fifth metatarsal by Dr. John Ellis at Norton's Hospital.
The 6'11" junior forward from Ft. Wayne, Indiana is one of three Cardinals elected as a captain for this year's team. Williams started the last 20 games of last season. He was third on the team in rebounding and 19th in the ACC. He averaged 6.1 rebounds and 7.7 points.
The injury comes just a week before the Louisville Cardinals plan on showcasing this year's basketball team at Louisville Live! Friday, September 27 from 7-9 p.m. at Fourth Street Live! The free, outdoor event will feature a portable court, stage, and video screens. Members of the Harlem Globetrotters are also taking part in the program.
