LOUISVILLE, Ky. – There was no collection for trash, recycling or other waste collection over Labor Day in Louisville. If you live within the Louisville Metro Urban Services area, your garbage will be picked up next week.
Labor Day is a "no collection-no delay" holiday and is a cost-saving measure brought on by city-wide budget cuts.
The budget cuts took effect on July 1. This is a change from the traditional one-day delay during holiday weeks.
This is the first time residents will experience the new change. Before when trash and recycling pickup fell on holidays it was taken away the next day.
All households affected by the change will return to normal collection on Monday, September 9. Those residents outside of Louisville or who pay for trash collection should consult with those responsible for their trash collection.
Residents are encouraged to utilize the free recycling drop-off locations to mitigate the loss of holiday pickup. A map of the locations and hours can be found here.
