LOUISVILLE, Ky. -The FBI office in Louisville tweeted Monday that someone online had threatened an attack somewhere in the state of Kentucky to take place Wednesday, August 28, and then in Arkansas Thursday, August 29.

  • FBI: Person online threatened KY school attack for 8/28
  • Officials: So far, the threat is "unsubstantiated"
  • School administrators: Safety precautions are in place

The threat comes less than two weeks after most Kentucky children returned for fall classes. Bullitt County School Superintendent Jesse Bacon told Spectrum News 1 during a phone call Tuesday that policy and procedure have recently changed drastically. Bacon said school resource officers roam the halls of each school. He added that his buildings have been outfitted with a double entrance vestibule, meaning an intruder would have to enter two separate locked doorways before making it into the main hallway. On top of that, entryway windows are now covered in tinted plastic, leaving a potential threat staring only at black while faculty can covertly assess who is approaching the building.

FBI and Homeland Security agents told Spectrum News 1 they were not able to give an interview Tuesday but said they are in constant contact with one another, as well as state and local law enforcement about the threatening post. FBI agents also said several school safety topics will be discussed at its regular meeting scheduled for October 2.

Jefferson County Public Schools also responded to the threat via Twitter.

JCPS officials plan to cover security topics at its Education Board meeting on Tuesday night.
