LOUISVILLE, Ky.-On Wednesday, August 21 President Donald Trump will be in Louisville for two separate events.
Trump is scheduled to deliver remarks at the 75th American Veterans, or AMVETS convention at the Galt House in downtown Louisville. AMVETS is a non-partisan, volunteer-led organization formed by World War Two veterans. It advocates for its members as well as for causes that assist their members.
Only AMVETS members are invited to the convention.
After speaking at the convention, the President will head to a private fundraiser for Governor Matt Bevin's reelection campaign.
Sources say Trump will land in Louisville at the Kentucky Air National Guard on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and then depart at 5:30 p.m.
During the President's drive from the airport to Downtown, a number of streets will be affected. According to the Louisville Downtown Partnership (LDP) specific routes are unknown, and timing of traffic delays and closures will vary.
However, the LDP said streets adjacent to the Galt House and Seelbach Hotel will be closed in advance of the President's visit, as well as during the events and his departure.
Areas around Jackson and Hancock Streets, Main Street from Second to Fifth, and Muhammad Ali from Third to Fifth as well as Guthrie will most likely be impacted.
LDP also added that closures may spread from the North of River Road to the South of Chestnut Street, as well as Third Street to the east and Fifth Street to the west.
Plus, prior to and during the President's transportation to and from the airport, LDP warns commuters that I-65 and possible additional interstates and Ohio River traffic to be closed.
Additional closures are possible throughout the Central Business district during the visit, but keep in mind restrictions may change at any time and with limited notice.
This all begins at 6 a.m. Wednesday morning with a strict no parking, no stopping protocol.
The LDP encourages commuters to make alternative plans if traveling downtown between 6 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
