LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is welcoming some new furry friends. The airport has introduced a new program called SDF WAGS in partnership with the ‘Wonderful Animals Giving Support’ Pet Therapy of Kentucky, Inc.
A few times a week on Monday through Friday, certified pet therapy animals and their handlers will roam through the terminal’s pre- and post-security checkpoints to provide passenger support and enjoyment.
“Traveling can be stressful and is not always for positive reasons,” explained Dan Mann, Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. “We believe having therapy animals in the terminal...helps ease the stress, calm the anxious and it hopefully can add a smile to someone’s day.”
This marks the first pet therapy program at the Louisville airport. Therapy animals and handlers will be outfitted in WAGS attire and have been trained for scenarios they may encounter in an airport. All passengers and airport guests are free to approach the animals.
