LOUISVILLE, Ky- Transportation officials are seeking input this week on six ways to handle traffic when the Sherman Minton Bridge undergoes a major renovation, including possibly closing the bridge entirely for two years.
The 56 year old double decker bridge, which carries interstate 64 between New Albany and Louisville, will undergo a $92 million reovation and will begin in 2021.
The project team is holding two open hearings this week.They are giving the public a chance to hear the latest information on traffic management option during construction, answer questions and then hear what concerns the public may have.
They offered six options for the public to vote on, asking which plan would be best to accomodate traffic during construction.
- Two lanes, two decks open
- One lane, Two decks open
- One deck open (alternating between AM and PM)
- One deck open (Reversible lane AM and PM)
- Full closure
- One deck open (one direction)
The first meeting was Tuesday, July 23 at the Chestnut Street Family YMCA. The second open hearing will be Thursday, July 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Feedback from the public will be incorported into the final plan sent to the Federal Highway Administration by the end of winter.
A project spokesperson said there will be another public hearing in the fall or early winter. They are asking the public to attend and comment on the progess.
