LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville food scene will expand in new ways next year when a brewery inspired a local initiative opens in the constantly-developing Butchertown area. DO/LOVE/LIVE, founded in 2017 by combat veterans John Flodder, Luke Scoggin, and Dave Childress, aims to inspire the community to DO/good, LOVE/big, and LIVE/now.

“We started DO/LOVE/LIVE with the spirit of giving back by providing 100% pro-bono fundraising, launch, and strategic marketing counsel to non-profit organizations. We’ve helped raise over $450,000 for military/veteran-focused charities and charities focused on curing rare childhood diseases like Niemann-Pick Type C,” explained Childress. “We also have a passion for and experience in the craft brewing industry. DO/LOVE/LIVE brewing is the next chapter in our story and we can’t wait to share it.”

The craft brewery will take over the Dryden Provisions building, a 22,000 square-foot former meat refrigeration facility located at 1016 E. Washington Street. The founders plan to honor Butchertown’s heritage through incorporation of industrial features into the design.

“Our goal is to curate ‘wow’ moments at DO/LOVE/LIVE brewing inspired by the local artists, makers, thinkers, and do-ers here in Butchertown and elsewhere in the city,” said Flodder. “We want our brewery to be a distinctly Louisville experience.”

The new space will feature an outdoor beer garden, communal seating areas, a north-facing second floor balcony with views of the Ohio River and Louisville City FC’s new stadium, a rooftop deck with 360-degree views of the city, and casual food concepts with multiple vendors.

Along with a project team of Kentucky development professionals, the founders will completely renovate and repurpose the building in a $5.5 million project that will take around nine to twelve months to finish.

“We have a fantastic local team helping us bring this project to life,” added Scoggin.

Once fully operating, the brewery will employ at least 30 people.

“The DO/LOVE/LIVE team has a vision and a plan to bring new investment and inject more fun into a neighborhood that is rapidly transforming,” said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. “With its roots in the tenants of giving back and living life to the fullest, the new brewery and restaurant is aligned with our city’s core values and is a welcome addition to Louisville.”
