The Big Story

Kentucky Truck Plant workers join UAW strike

In a surprise move, Wednesday night, thousands of workers at the Ford Truck Plant walked off the job. United Autoworkers President Shawn Fain says the union has waited long enough to bargain for a fair contract. Ford called the strike expansion “grossly irresponsible” but said it wasn’t surprising given the UAW leadership’s statements that it wanted to keep Detroit automakers hobbled with “industrial chaos.”

UAW Local 862 workers participated in a practice picket on Aug. 25, 2023. They've said they've been ready to walk off if needed. (Spectrum News 1/Mason Brighton)
