KENTUCKY — From the border to federal aid, political observers and even many lawmakers in Washington, D.C., agree this current session of Congress has been full of gridlock, lots of contention and infighting between party lines.
On today’s program, we’re sitting down one-on-one with Congressman Morgan McGarvey, D-Ky., of Louisville.
Members of Congress are back in their home states and districts until Sept. 9 for a month-long work period known as “August recess.” With members home, McGarvey has kept a busy schedule meeting, with members in his third congressional district on a variety of topics including the impact of affordable housing and homelessness resources on their constituents, veteran affairs and more.
During this "In Focus Kentucky" segment, McGarvey also highlighted a recent visit to Louisville from Taryn Mackenzie Williams, assistant secretary of labor for Disability Employment Policy. This visit came out of a bill, passed in the U.S. House of Representatives. H.R. 7985, the Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Reporting Act, would require the Small Business Administration (SBA) to submit a report to Congress on challenges faced by entrepreneurs with disabilities. H.R. 7103, the Agency Accountability Act, would hold federal agencies that fail to meet their small business contracting quotas accountable.
McGarvey is the only freshman Democrat to pass two bills out of the House of Representatives.
