KENTUCKY — From the border, to federal aid, political observers and even many lawmakers in Washington, D.C., agree that this current session of Congress has been full of grid lock and lots of contention, and infighting between party lines.
On today’s program, we’re sitting down one-on-one with Congressman Andy Barr, R-Ky., of Lexington.
The Republican lawmaker has been serving as the U.S. representative for Kentucky’s 6th congressional district, which covers 16 counties in Central Kentucky, since 2013.
During this segment, Rep. Barr who is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, comments on his recent trip to Taiwan, where he went on a bipartisan congressional delegation visit to Taiwan, meeting with the newly inaugurated President, Lai Ching-Te, and other administration officials to express their strong bipartisan support for the east Asia country.
“We are proud to have been the first U.S. congressional delegation to meet with President Lai and senior members of his new administration... In our meetings, we reaffirmed our support for Taiwan amidst the Chinese Communist Party’s continued aggression in the region by ensuring Taiwan has the tools it needs to defend itself. We also discussed ways for the United States to deepen our economic ties to Taiwan and expand our diplomatic cooperation. Taiwan is a thriving democracy and a valuable partner to the United States in the Pacific,” explained Barr.
The Congressman also is the co-chair of the Taiwan caucus in the U.S. Congress and said the United States is fully committed to supporting Taiwan militarily, diplomatically and economically.
