KENTUCKY — Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is observed in the U.S. during the month of May. The month recognizes the contributions and influence of AAPI Americans to the history, culture and achievements of the United States.

During this In Focus Kentucky segment, Dr. Duk Lee joins the program to discuss his work as a professor of mathematics at Asbury University in Jessamine County.

Recently, Dr. Lee received a NASA Kentucky Space Grant for his upcoming aeronautic workshop series for elementary, middle and high school students and teachers. Dr. Duk Lee received his master’s degree and Ph.D. in mathematics from Arizona State University. His research interests include mathematical connections of origami and music.

He serves as the chair of the Kentucky Section of the Mathematical Association of America (KYMAA) and is a member Kentucky chapter of Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association. Dr. Lee began teaching at Asbury University in 2001.

Also during this segment, Dr. Lee shares what AAPI Heritage Month means to him, explains how his heritage shaped the person he is today, plus details what brings him joy about his heritage and culture.
