LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Living Word Christian Center and Bubblemat Coin Laundry joined forces to host their Loads of Love event to support families during the start of a new school year.
The church paid for the washes; the laundromat provided drying services, and First Love Kingdom Ministry donated detergent. The cost of up to 100 loads of laundry for members of the community was covered by these entities.
Bubblemat Coin Laundry opened next to the Living Word Christian Center approximately eight months ago and both establishments share the same attitude for giving back to the community.
“Love for us is a verb, right?” said Tom Ramsey, the owner of the laundromat. “You can say you love someone, but until you show an action, and you physically do something to show that you care about the people that are in your community and around you, we really feel like that’s what you have to do. It’s easy to say you love someone or you want to do something for someone, but we actually put action to that.”
“It’s just something that really, not only touches our heart, but we believe it touches the hearts of the community so that they can see that we really do care about you,” said Derrick Thomas, the senior pastor at the Living Word Christian Center. “We want to see people prosper, we want to see people be successful, and we just want to help people along their journey of life.”
Those who utilized the services seemed happy to have the opportunity to get a free load of laundry.
“I’m very grateful and this has kept me with renewed hope that miracles do happen, blessings do happen, you just got to be patient,” said Rachel Estill, who washed her clothes during the event. “Patience is key. Having patience and keeping faith that help will come is the best miracle.”
The Living Word Christian Center and Bubblemat Coin Laundry are planning to host more of these events. The laundromat hopes to find more corporate partners to do a dollar-for-dollar match and continue giving back to the community.
