Sixteen-year-old Jakob Quenzer is an inspiration to many, including his mother, Rhonda.

Rhonda Quenzer, said, “He is my hero, he is so resilient.”

Jacob’s battles began at six years old.

Jakob said, “I remember falling off my bike. I wasn’t wearing a helmet.”

After hitting his head, Jakob and his mom and went to the hospital to see if he had a concussion, only to discover he had a brain tumor.

Rhonda said, “It was just disbelief, because he wasn’t having typical symptoms. The nausea, the headaches, the vomiting, the loss of coordination — he had no symptoms that would clue us in that was going on.”

Jakob, being only six, had no comprehension of the situation.

Jakob said, “I didn’t understand it at the time. I was just there, didn’t understand it, and just wanted to go home.”

Jakob eventually had surgery to have the tumor removed.

However, the tumor came back, and eventually, forced Jacob to have four surgeries.

The last one also involved intense chemotherapy, because the tumor had attached to his brain stem.

Rhonda said, “The emotions were all over the place. It was like, ‘We got to face this again, is this going to continue to happen?’”

He pressed on, showing positive energy throughout the journey, even during his the most strenuous times.

Rhonda said, “Jake was in the back of the car, and said ‘Momma, it’s going to be okay.’”

And now, over a year, he has been done with chemotherapy, and the tumor is now stable. For the Quenzer’s, they want their story to continue to give others who are going through scary times hope that they are not alone.

Rhonda said, “When you get that news, you feel like you’re alone, but you’re not. There are so many others who have faced and been through it.”
