On Thursday, sunshine returns for the majority of Kentucky. A few clouds and showers will be possible late in the day across southeastern areas of the Commonwealth. The rest of us will stay dry.

1. Officer critically injured at Old National Bank 'most awake he's been' since shooting
Louisville police officer Nick Wilt continues to recover from his life-threatening injury sustained in the April 10 mass shooting. He's been in rehab for one week.
2. Biden says he’s ‘confident’ debt limit deal will be reached
His speech also came hours after Democrats took action to try and maneuver around the House Republican majority, circulating a discharge petition in order to force a vote on the debt limit as a fallback option in case an agreement cannot be reached.

4. Drug overdoses in the U.S. increased slightly last year
An estimated 109,680 overdose deaths occurred last year. That's about 2% more than the 107,622 U.S. overdose deaths in 2021, but nothing like the 30% increase seen in 2020.
