Tuesday will be bright and a little breezy by the afternoon. Winds will gust up to 25 mph at times. Temperatures will be well below average for late September, with highs only in the middle to upper 60s. Southwest Kentucky will top out in the low-70s.

1. Kentucky man who shot classmates in '97 denied parole, imprisoned for life

Michael Carneal, now 39, told parole board members last week that he would live with his parents and continue his mental health treatment if they agreed to release him. He now has to serve the rest of his life sentence without another chance at parole.

2. Russian military recruiter shot amid fear of Ukraine call-up

The shooting comes after scattered arson attacks on enlistment offices and protests in Russian cities against the call-up that have resulted in at least 2,000 arrests.

3. Pfizer submits application for updated COVID boosters for kids 5-11

Pfizer’s vaccine for the kids’ booster includes safety and efficacy data on 5- to 11-year-olds for the BA.1-adapted vaccine as well as nonclinical, preclinical and manufacturing data on the BA.4/BA.5 shots.

4. State Sen. Embry resigns, citing long cancer battle

Embry has been elected 12 times to five different public offices, including the House of Representatives and his current position in the Senate, where he's served since 2014.
