Hurricane season stretches from June 1 through the end of November. This period of time is when conditions are most suitable for hurricane development in the Atlantic.
All hurricanes begin as a tropical wave, which is a cluster of thunderstorms over the ocean. Conditions need to be just right for a tropical disturbance to grow into a hurricane.
