HOUSTON — A Houston man who was pardoned by President Donald Trump after attacking police during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol is in custody over a child sex charge dating back to 2016.
Andrew Taake, 36, faced the charge in Harris County for soliciting a minor. He allegedly sent sexually explicit messages to a 17-year-old, according to reporting from The Associated Press.
Authorities on Feb. 4 confirmed Taake was staying at a residence in Leon County, located north of Houston. The Harris County District Attorney’s Fugitive Apprehension Section took Taake into custody at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
“We would like to thank the coordinated efforts of our office’s Fugitive Apprehension Section, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Department of Public Safety for their diligence in getting this suspected child predator back into custody,” said Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare.
Taake was previously charged for pepper-spraying police and attacking them with a metal whip during the Capitol riots.
Taake was one of about 1,500 Jan. 6 defendants Trump pardoned on the day of his second inauguration. Taake was released from custody in a federal prison in Florence, Colorado, on Jan. 20 despite Texas authorities’ request to hold him for the pending warrant.
Authorities in Harris County have revoked Taake's bond and are working with Leon County authorities to transfer him to the Harris County Jail.
