  • Two people were injured critically

  • A group in Lexington has been working to address gun violence with preventative measures

The recent wave of shootings has Sherry Warsh with the advocacy group Build concerned.

“Our kids have nowhere safe to go,” she said. “That’s really what go me into fighting for the violence.

Warsh said it’s all the more reason the city needs to be proactive.

“Every time I hear of another shooting, I get angry, and I’m going, ‘Why?’” she said. “Because there’s ways to stop this to try and curtail it, and it just makes you angry.”

Build has been working on a system called group violence intervention, which aims to help young people in at-risk situations so they don’t contribute to shootings.

“If we can save one or two lives, then I’m going to say the program has worked,” Warsh said.

She worries the shootings will continue until the city does more.
