The shipment of Nestlé Health Science Alfamino and Alfamino Junior, set to land in Louisville, Kentucky, marks the seventh Operation Fly Formula mission spearheaded by the Biden administration in the wake of the nationwide baby formula shortage.

Thursday’s shipment equates to around 548,000 8-ounce bottles, the White House said. They will distribute the formula to hospitals, home health companies and WIC programs around the country.

The flight is being facilitated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. More deliveries of Nestlé formula will be announced in the coming days, according to the White House.

While shelves remain scarce in many areas of the country, President Joe Biden has pushed his administration to mobilize a supply of baby formula from domestic factories and overseas, as U.S. health officials worked to get a Michigan Abbott factory back online after a recall there put a dent in the company’s 40% formula market share.

The Abbott plant in Sturgis, Michigan, reopened earlier this month.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear in early June declared a state of emergency over the baby formula shortage, which activated the state’s price-gouging laws to protect families looking for much-needed formula. The state of emergency helps ensure Kentucky families aren’t charged more than they should be for baby formula, which is in high demand because of the shortage mainly attributed to a lack of supply that followed the shutdown of the Abbott factory.

Throughout the series of Operation Fly Formula missions, Nestlé said it plans to export around 42 million 8-ounce bottle equivalents to the U.S. market.
