BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Hillvue Heights Church members are celebrating "Reach" week as they give back to the Bowling Green community.

The program was started by Chelsea Wallace, who has served as the brains behind the operation. The volunteer program is made up of members of the Church's congregation and they help spread love and assistance throughout Bowling Green.

“It is an opportunity that our church has to serve," Wallace said. "To be the hands and feet of Jesus and we try to serve as many organizations as we can.”

The group normally does small projects throughout, but during reach week they participate in something different daily. From handing out food at WKU, to working with the Salvation army and Potters children's home moving furniture. 

“A lot of time we would feed first responders and that is how we would serve our community through COVID," said Wallace. "Now seeing people get back out and serving again and jumping into things that can be uncomfortable in a time like this has been incredible.”

The group has racked up over 20,000 hours of community service in three years. Geneva Brewer is the volunteer coordinator with Potter Children's home, and she said each year she gets excited for Reach week.

"I just look forward to her email every year saying its time for the Reach program to help again," said Brewer.

The week will finish with a single mother's oil change event.
