CAVE CITY, Ky. — After being shutdown since 2020, Guntown Mountain is back under new management and visiting families are back to take in all of the park's nostalgia.

What You Need To Know

  • Guntown Mountain is a theme park recreating pioneer times, with simulated gunfights and tours of a "haunted" hotel

  • Guntown Mountain was shut down in 2020 due to COVID-19

  • Nathan Frensley is the new owner

  • Frensley is looking to add new amenities like hotels and a movie theater

Michelle Russell frequently visited the mountaintop amusement park as a child, as it even became a tradition in her household. Now she's bringing it back with her own family.

“The first time coming was with my mom and then it was a family adventure," Russell said. "Then I got married with my husband and now it is a family adventure with him."

The park was shut down in 2020 due to COVID-19. It's now under new management and owner Nathan Frensley is determined to improve the experience for all guests.

"My parents were always sitting us down at dinner and watching John Wayne," Frensley said. "I always wanted to do this. I wanted to have a wild West fest closer to Nashville but this came available and my son and I sold everything we had and we are putting everything on it.”

The park will be filled with gun shows, dances, and magic shows to name a few. Frensley is already planning to add things like movie theaters and a movie theater to it as well.

Russell said the gun shows are always a good time. They remind her of her time when her son was younger.

“I used to have play gunfights with my son," Russell said. "Now that he's older it just brings back all those memories of how we used to spend that time together."

The park will be open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
