LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky (UK) will soon require all students, faculty and staff who haven't been vaccinated against COVID-19 to undergo weekly testing, UK President Eli Capilouto announced Thursday.

What You Need To Know

  • UK will require all unvaccinated students, faculty and staff to submit weekly COVID-19 tests starting Sept. 1

  • 74% of UK's campus community is vaccinated

  • Once any unvaccinated campus members are fully vaccinated, testing is no longer required

  • Masks are still required for all indoor settings at UK, regardless of vaccination status

Mandatory COVID-19 testing is set to begin Sept. 1. Capilouto said UK employees should begin signing up for appointments on Aug. 30.

As of Aug. 24, 74% of the campus community was vaccinated, a notably higher percentage than Kentucky's statewide average of 52%.

According to Capilouto's announcement, UK employees can be tested during work ours, and hourly workers won't have to take leave time to take their tests.

Two sites dedicated to employee testing will soon open. All student testing will continue in the Blue Box Theatre at the Gatton Student Center.

Masks are required to be worn in all indoor settings at UK and colleges across the Commonwealth, regardless of vaccination status.
