LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) needs more workers in key positions. Chief of Human Resources Dr. Aimee Green-Webb was excited at the district's job fair Wednesday to greet a crowd looking to fill those spots.

"I think it’s extra exciting this time," she said about hiring after the pandemic. "There’s a lot more energy in the room."

What You Need To Know

  • JCPS hosted a job fair Wednesday evening

  • Dozens lined up an hour before doors opened

  • The district wants to hire 100 bus drivers

  • Janitorial and food service are other areas of need

Bus drivers have been a glaring need for more than a year. Green-Webb said she’d be thrilled to hire 100 drivers this summer alone. Hundreds of more positions are open in other departments too.

He won't be getting behind the wheel, but an open bus monitor role brought Lamont Thompson out of a recent March retirement.

"I got tired of sitting at home. The 'honey-do' list has gotten shorter, so I have a nervous energy. I need to keep moving," Lamont smiled.

"I’m a people person. I know how to deal with kids… I try to lead them in the right direction. That’s hopefully what I can get out of being a bus monitor."

We don’t yet know if Thompson got the job, but he had some traits district managers like Jennifer Davis want in an employee.

"If you care and you have a heart and you’re awesome, you’re devoted and you love the kids, you love the community and you just want to serve people, that’s what it takes," Davis said.

Green-Webb said job openings are posted on the district’s website for anyone who did not make it out to the job fair.
