LEXINGTON, Ky. — There's something special going in Lexington these days at Greyline Station. Inside, people are talking, shopping and engaging in conversations over food and drinks. They are enjoying a space called Julietta Market.

What You Need To Know

  • Julietta Market is open Thursday through Sunday in Lexington

  • The market sells everything from popcorn to jewelry

  • The market is open to all vendors

  • The market also features restaurants to dine at

"The camaraderie of the business owners helps you. It motivates you to continue on,” Donna Campbell said.

Donna Campbell sells jewelry, but encourages people to take advantage of all the products offered in the 23,000 square foot space.

"You've got groceries, you've got food, you can get bundles to do your laundry, you know you have everything. I'm getting ready to have something for my daughter's birthday. I need jewelry, things like that, and that makes you feel good, makes you want to be here,” Campbell said.

The Market's name is also a nod to the area's history, as it features the namesake of a local civil rights activist.

"It was named for Ms. Julie Lewis, who was a civil rights activist here in Lexington who fought,  got equality for everyone, not just got those of black people, but everyone in the neighborhood.  If you needed a job, she fought for you. If you needed a place to live, she fought for you; if you needed a place she fought for you. So this is what this is about.  It is fighting for our communities so we can have the very things that sustain us,” Director of Small Business Development and Mentoring Leannia Hardwood said.

And the vendors are also quick to point they are all in this together, no matter what their future goals are.

"I don't think it's a competition because everyone has something to offer. You know it doesn't have to be a competition because in the mall, when you shop at foot locker doesn't mean you aren't going to go shop at Finish Line, so that's the gist of it being tight-knit and helping each other grow,” Jaron  Jones said.
