WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. — Kentuckians may notice a familiar town in the movie "Midway to Love," a Hallmark film shot here in the commonwealth.
Midway, located in Woodford County, hosted the movie's cast and crew while they were filming. Directed by Jeff Day, the film focuses on a rekindled high school romance as a big city TV host returns to her hometown.
"It created a buzz that already was there. And I think what it really did is just liven in the town in the sense that we're not just a small town that gets a lot of visitors. We're a small town that has sometimes a Hollywood feel to it as well," said Grayson Vendergrift, mayor of Midway.
While highlighting the town, it also put some local businesses in the spotlight, such as Ken Glass's Railroad Drug and Oldetime Soda Shop.
"When the filming crews came into town to shoot a lot of the main street shots, some of the actual filming crew came in and wanted to know if they could use the soda fountain as a backdrop because they wanted to have her being... I think part of her character was they thought that she liked ice cream even in the cold," said Glass.
"Midway to Love"'s shooting locations extended beyon Midway, filming in Versailles, Nicholasville and Wilmore. The movie also includes cameos from local natives like 9-year-old Caroline Glass, who served as an extra.
"So, my mom got a text from the creators of the movie that they needed some extras for a scene. And she asked me and I said yes because I thought it would be really exciting to do something like that," said Caroline. "We just walked by the male actor, Mr. Sims, all we had done was we walked by him and said, "Hi, Mr. Sims."
Midway isn't new to tourism; however, this movie is their latest claim to fame.
