FRANKFORT, Ky. — Governor Andy Beshear updated the state Wednesday on the current status of the coronavirus in the commonwealth.

Kentucky still has eight patients. Four remain in isolation in area hospitals and the other four are in isolation at their homes. All are in stable condition and doing well. Beshear says two of them are almost over the virus.

As a result of the virus, Beshear announced he is canceling the annual Governor's Prayer Breakfast which was slated to take place Thursday, March 12. He also asked all churches in the state to cancel all of their services for the weekend. He said he knows this is a hard decision for many, but believes, especially because so many of the elderly enjoying going to services, it is in the best interest of public health and safety to avoid large gatherings.

Beshear was joined by Secretary Mary Noble of the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet and the pair announced all outside visitation to state prisons would be stopped. No one knows how long the ban on visitors will last, but again, in the effort of safety, they feel it is the best decision. Inmates will be given one free phone call a week and two controlled contacts on social media.

Beshear also cautioned basketball fans about the upcoming conference tournaments to be cautious and pay attention to the Centers for Disease Control guidelines. He went even went so far to say "don't go."
