DANVILLE, Ky. - Shepherd's House is a recovery program that helps people dealing with substance abuse. The program can be six months to a year depending on the treatments needed to help each person get their life back in order. The program offers therapy, group sessions, job training, GED assistance, and help with basic life skills.
The program started in Boyle County because the community needed a place for people dealing with addiction in the jails. County leaders wanted to create a resource for those people to recover and get back into the community.
"People that are in jail, are going to be your neighbors again someday they're not gonna stay in jail from now on. And so what we're trying to do is find ways that they can improve their lives and be productive citizens and and come back into our communities and make a difference,” Mercer County Judge Executive, Milward Dedman said.
This program has helped more than 250 people who have been court-ordered to attend this program, along with others who walked into the program on their own. Shepherd's House has been around for three years. Most of their staff members are either in recovery or have graduated from the program themselves.
“If you live in this community and you need help, come here and we're going to help, you know that's a beautiful thing,"
Director of Community Outreach, Roger Fox said.
