LOUISVILLE, Ky. - With football season in full swing and basketball around the corner, fans across the Bluegrass state will be buying tickets to support their favorite teams.

If the camp out to get Big Blue Madness tickets is any indication, fans will do just about anything to make sure they can get in on the action. Despite that desire, folks at the Better Business Bureau wants to make sure you don't leave your better judgment aside. The BBB received nearly 400 reports of ticket scams last year.

“Obviously the more you can plan, the better for events of any type whether it’s basketball, football or just a concert you want to go to. You do have ticket scalpers that may be there at the venue. They could be selling fake tickets. They could be trying to oversell you on something,” Mindy Eaton with the BBB Louisville said.

The University of Louisville said it has not seen any large-scale ticket scams this season. Neither has the University of Kentucky. However, it was something UK athletics worried about before the sold-out game against Florida last month.

The Better Business Bureau said a way to avoid that is by buying tickets directly from approved vendors. For UK games, those are the following:

For Cardinals fans, Ticketmaster is the only authorized platform for UofL events, other than the university itself.

“If you’re dealing with a reputable website or company, chances are that they have their return exchange policies posted. They are going to accept forms of payments like a credit card, which is always the recommended form of payment because oftentimes if there is an extra charge, you can dispute that with a credit card company,” Eaton said.

You can always look up the seller or broker on bbb.org to learn what other customers have experienced. You can also look up the seller on VerifiedTicketSource.com to confirm if you are buying from a National Association of Ticket Brokers member.
