WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - Three schools in Eastern Kentucky were given new laptops and tablets to start the new school year on the right foot.

Chater Communications, the parent company of Spectrum News 1, donated 60 HP laptop computers and 50 tablets to three schools in Eastern Kentucky as well as present the Spectrum Internet Assist Program.

The three communities that received the donated devices include Babourville, Williamsburg, and Booneville, Kentucky. These communities are in need of this technology for their schools as they are located in ones of the poorest and most underserved areas of the country.

Brad Miller is a teacher at the Williamsburg Independent School, but he also grew up in Eastern Kentucky. He said the donation will go a long way.

“The general consensus is that the schools haven’t had the technology or the connectivity to support a lot of research based education,” said Miller.

Kentucky State Senate President Robert Stivers was appreciative of the gift. Stivers said it is can become a catalyst of change for the region.

“This is not an investment in computers,” said Stivers. “This is an investment in our most valued asset, young people.”
