BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — A Bowling Green nonprofit is spreading gratefulness throughout the commonwealth by distributing holiday bags for the Thanksgiving season.
The food bank is called St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, and they help underserved people with clothing, utility bills and food boxes.
One of the people who is volunteering is Claire Brooks. Brooks, who once worked with helping students at Western Kentucky University, is now retired. But she is still finding a new way to help others.
“When I retired, I wanted to have purpose in my life,” Brooks explained.
Now, she’s doing that by volunteering with Saint Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. And for this Thanksgiving season, they’re not holding back on providing feasts for families, distributing holiday bags for people in need. The bags come with a lot of goodies, including a whole turkey, green beans, potatoes, soups and canned gravy.
The bags feed around a family of four. Brooks and other volunteers often put together around 50 bags each day, with the record being 78 in one day.
For her, it’s a worthwhile endeavor because giving people something to eat is her way of giving thanks this holiday season.
“They come to me and they say they wouldn’t know what they would do if they weren’t getting this food,” she shared.
