NEWPORT, Ky. — People gathered on Saturday at the Holiday Hope Charity Drive. Its purpose is to give back to community members who seek help from the Henry Hosea House (HHH) soup kitchen in Newport.

What You Need To Know

  • The HHHH works to provide nourishment to people every day

  • Every year, its board members and sponsors put on the Holiday Hope Charity Drive

  • The drive collects different winter items

  • Items will be given to people at the HHH

Tammy Bravo is the owner and operator of Executive Transportation Services, a local taxi and shuttle company. She also serves on the board at the HHH. According to Bravo, she wanted to give back to the community, so her company began working alongside HHH and other sponsors and businesses to launch the Holiday Hope Charity Drive each year. The event has taken place for five years.

“There’s a lot of people who unfortunately are living in the street, so the sleeping bags and the gloves and the hats and the hand warmers and foot warmers are very important,” Bravo said.

Bravo said all walks of life seek a warm meal daily at the HHH, and some of those people may not have a warm place to stay at night. Board member Andrew Duncan said the drive helps cater to a need.

“The biggest needs we see at the Hosea House is people just need warmer clothes and sometimes they’re expensive to get quality stuff,” Duncan said.

After the drive collects items, representatives will bring them back to the HHH. They then get ready to distribute these supplies starting as early as Monday.

“We usually have everything distributed in 10 days or less, so if we can continue to keep items coming in, that would be great,” Bravo said.
