On the top floor of the Joseph Beth bookstore, crowds surrounded the youth for a brief showcase of their upcoming musical adaptation of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jr.

The adaptation includes Rudolph, the group of misfit toys, Hermey the elf, the abominable snow monster, and more, overcoming their challenges through shared experiences. The winter favorites were performed by the children's theatre's top young performers.

One of the standout young people is Katelyn Windhorn. “I'm one of the reindeer and I was in jingle jingle jingle, walking around the Christmas tree and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” Windhorn said.

The 10-year-old has been singing, dancing, and acting since she was 6 years old, however, she says is new to the theater.

“This is my first play with the Lexington Children’s Theatre but I have been in other plays with other companies,” said Windhorn.

Supporting her and the holiday showcase are the seasoned performers' parents, siblings and grandparents. Her parents say she has always been a natural performer.

With her special connection to the holidays, Winthorn’s parents say she was gifted to them on Christmas eve as their first child. Mom, Jennifer Windhorn, says the hospital brought her to the family in a Christmas stocking, which the family still uses for Katelyn every year.

The theater's Rudolph adaptation is sponsored by the family-owned house constructors, Ball homes.

Lexington's Opera house will put on the shows from Nov. 25 to Nov. 27.
