LOUISVILLE, Ky. — As flooding continues to impact Kentucky, water covered driveways, yards and parks in the Lake Dreamland neighborhood on Louisville’s West Side.

  • Rene Gaillard III has lived in his Lake Dreamland home on Louisville’s West Side for 25 years

  • Within three days, water has covered driveways, yards and parks, turning his backyard into what looks like a little pond 

  • Gaillard said the flooding is bringing up many emotions for him following the death of his wife 

  • He said he thought he was going to lose his house as well from the flooding

Rene Gaillard III, who has called the neighborhood home for more than 25 years, said this is only the second time he has seen flooding like this.

"Last time, the water didn't get over onto the concrete," Gaillard said. 

Gaillard said within three days, his backyard turned into what looks like a little pond.

“Yesterday was my birthday, so I said, 'God gave me that lake for my birthday,'” Gaillard said.

Gaillard said the flooding is bringing up many emotions for him. His wife, Becky, recently died from heart failure. 

He now sits in her favorite chair. 

"We love to sit out here at the fire pit,” Gaillard said.

Gaillard said he was scared that with all the rain and flooding, he would lose his house, too.

“I was panicking then, but luckily we didn't have anything ... maybe a little bit on the floor of the shed and then some of my goodies in a wheelbarrow that I waited 'til the last minute to salvage,” Gaillard said.

He's now waiting for the floodwaters to recede, he said.
