CAMARILLO, Calif. — More than 20,000 acres have burned throughout Ventura County because of the Mountain Fire.

As firefighters continue efforts to put the flames, build containment lines and more, crews have also had to find alternative sources of water as utility infrastructure was damaged.

The Calleguas Municipal Water District advises residents in the area to check with their local water company for an unsafe water alert notice and avoid using the water in those areas until the notice is lifted.

Ian Prichard with the district said toxic chemicals could have been released into the water supply when it failed, making it unsafe.
