Zarina Khairzada is an award-nominated journalist and Southern California native who has stayed true to her roots uncovering community stories that bring new perspectives.

Since joining Spectrum News 1 in 2018, she has covered many major moments for Los Angeles and the surrounding areas that include protests that ensued after the death of George Floyd, communities coming together to help new arrivals from Afghanistan, and Tropical Storm Hilary coverage in the Coachella Valley where, amidst the damage, she helped a lost dog find his way home.

Zarina holds a bachelor’s degree in TV and Broadcast Journalism from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. Zarina was nominated for a Los Angeles Press Club award.

Like most, Zarina has more than one favorite spot in SoCal. When she’s not reporting on Spectrum News 1, you can catch her snowboarding in Big Bear, spending time walking her dogs or taking a day trip somewhere in SoCal.
