LOS ANGELES — Owing to construction work this weekend, the Metro Red (B) and Purple (D) lines will be temporarily shut down between the Union and 7th Street/Metro Center stations.

To support the final connection to a new Division 20 Portal Widening & Turnback Facility Project, trains will be out of service from 5:45 a.m. Friday through 12:45 a.m. Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

“The project will make subway service faster, safer and more reliable by allowing Metro to operate more trains on its expanding rail network,” the agency said.

Shuttle services will be available between the 7th Street and Pershing Square stations.

Those traveling between the 7th Street and Civic Center stations can transfer to the Blue (A) or Expo (E) lines to access Civic Center from the Historic Broadway station, and the Blue (A) line also connects directly to Union Station.

Customers traveling between 7th Street and Union Station can transfer to the A Line and connect directly to Union Station.

Regular train service will resume at 4 a.m. Monday. Union Station will remain open for all other bus/rail lines.
