LOS ANGELES — With the highly anticipated train connecting Los Angeles and Las Vegas still years away, travelers looking for another option besides driving or flying might consider the bus.
This week, the intercity coach company Megabus announced it will begin a new service between LA and Vegas beginning June 1.
“Los Angeles to Vegas is a key route for Megabus,” Megabus commercial vice president Colin Emberson said in a statement.
Citing an increased demand for travel in advance of what is expected to be a busy summer travel season, Megabus will run four trips daily.
Of the 39 million people who visited Las Vegas in 2022, 26% visited from Southern California, according to GLS Research. Fifty-two percent of Las Vegas visitors travel by vehicle, and 48% travel by air, GLS found.
Megabus recently resumed service in California and is currently offering daily trips between Anaheim, LA, Bakersfield, Fresno, San Francisco, Oakland and Sacramento. The new LA to Vegas route costs about $40 each way, with trips taking 6 to 6 1/2 hours.
Greyhound also offers service between LA and Las Vegas, starting around $25 each way, as does the European carrier Flixbus, starting at $35 one way.
