COMMERCE, Calif. (CNS) — A fiery collision between a big rig and at least two other vehicles led to an oil spill that closed several lanes of the Long Beach (710) Freeway for hours in Commerce Friday morning.

The crash was reported around 11:50 p.m. Thursday and when officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to the northbound freeway at Bandini Boulevard, they learned the semi was involved in a collision with at least two other vehicles, a black sedan and a black Ford Mustang, according to the CHP.

The semi burst into flames and spilled oil along multiple lanes of the northbound freeway.

A street sweeper called in to clean up the oil spill caught on fire and the driver of the sweeper was taken to a hospital, local media reported.

All lanes except the No. 1 lane of the northbound 710 Freeway were closed while crews worked to clear the scene. The remaining northbound lanes were reopened about 7:30 a.m., according to the CHP. All lanes of the southbound freeway remained open.
