LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Traffic volumes continued to build last month at Ontario International Airport, a popular alternative for SoCal travelers, with more than a half-million passengers passing through the facility, airport officials announced Wednesday.
According to the Ontario International Airport Authority, roughly 514,000 passengers utilized the airfield in June, 8% higher than the pre-pandemic month of June 2019 and 20% higher than June of last year.
Airport officials noted it was the fourth consecutive month that passenger volumes exceeded pre-pandemic levels.
“Ontario International’s performance this year shows what full recovery looks like and we couldn’t be happier for it,” Alan D. Wapner, president of the OIAA Board of Commissioners and mayor pro tem of Ontario, said in a statement.
“With demand for air travel through ONT growing month after month, we are ramping up for more air service by opening all of our 27 aircraft terminal gates, providing travelers the seamless, efficient experience they’ve come to expect.”
So far this year, 2.6 million passengers have moved through the airport, a 2.6% increase from the first half of 2019, and a 60% jump from the first six months of last year.
Air cargo shipments by weight increased by more than 14% in June compared with June 2019, according to the airport. The nearly 72,000 tons that moved through the airport last month was roughly equivalent to June 2021.
For the first six months of the year, cargo tonnage was 12% higher than the same period in 2019, airport officials said.
